Together® Questions and Answers
What kind of instruments do you use?
We have a wide variety of non-pitched instruments such as drums,
triangles, tambourines, bells, castanets, shakers and rhythm sticks.
The reason for non-pitched instruments is so that the children will
never feel they are playing a "wrong note" and can join
in however they like. We also use chime bars pitched to match the
songs and we sometimes dance with scarves and play with props! All
the instruments and props we use in class are of the highest quality
and non-toxic. All the instruments we use in class may be purchased
at our online store, at www.famjam.net. For accompaniment, the
teachers lead the group to sing, sometimes a cappella (voices only),
occasionally with a teacher playing an instrument. Sometimes we
use recorded music. We limit use of the CD in class to 3 or 4 songs
per session however, as we want to emphasize the active experience
of music and movement making in class, rather than passive listening.
